32-Channel Transistor Output Module for Modicon TM3, 24 VDC Sink (NPN)

The TM3DQ32UK adds 32 transistor outputs to Modicon M221, M241, M251 and M262 logic controllers. Outputs are negative logic (sink / NPN), so each channel switches the 0 V side of the load and the field device stays connected to +24 V. Solid-state switching gives a 450 µs response with no contact wear, which suits solenoid valves, indicators and high-cycle pneumatic actuators better than relay outputs.

The 32 outputs are split into two groups of 16, each group with one common line on two pins. Each channel carries 0.1 A and each common line carries 2 A, so the module is built for dense signal-level loads rather than direct motor or heater switching. Leakage current in the OFF state is 0.1 mA maximum and voltage drop is below 0.4 V. A clamping voltage of about 50 VDC handles the reverse pulse from inductive loads, and the outputs are protected against reverse polarity.

Two limits need attention at commissioning. The module has no internal short-circuit protection, so a fast external fuse is required for each group. The outputs are not isolated from one another, only 500 VAC from the internal logic, so all 32 channels must reference the same supply. Wiring uses a removable HE10 (MIL 20) connector, keeping 32 channels in 33.5 mm of DIN rail width, with unshielded cable runs up to 5 m.
